We would like to express the points of view of people living with HIV and AIDS (in Switzerland) with respect to the Swiss announcement on HIV-transmission under ART.

The  proof of  a zero-effect, will never be reached.
The gap between zero and the best known threshold values, however, make further research a must. What should a threshold value be?

To build an sustainable platform for prevention it is necessary to openly admit that the focus and core messages of prevention evolve with the clinical management of HIV
infection .
…sometimes quite rapidly.
(This time it was, from our point of view not really rapid. And by the way: why was it evident enough to communicate the facts to individual
patients during the last 8 years?)

How can we evaluate our goals, how can the real actual situations be respected, how can we transfer our experiences, if
up-to-date information is kept as an insider thing?
All prevention and information will keep on feeding on stigma and fear and we will all continue to  suffer from HIV and AIDS, infected, affected or not, if we cannot
establish a well-informed, tolerant society wich manages the integration of people living with HIV and AIDS.

The key factors have been identified: stigma, discrimination and gender inequality are major obstacles to effective response to AIDS.

All successful response  to HIV and AIDS has been based on enlightment-campaigns. Since the beginning of the epidemic.

Why should we turn in to an other direction?
And why should success not be communicated?
We, people with HIV and AIDS , will do not hide the scientific facts & the soft and hard facts of living with HIV and AIDS.

Because,
if censorship and ignorance will guide prevention and care, the more HIV and AIDS will still be thriven on intoleance and xenophobia.

There is a deep correlation between information and responsability.

And that is why we ask you to communicate openly every scientific fact.
Do not wait for better times.

Even if the facts and experiences that you have to transfer will not be good news for people with HIV and AIDS.

Stigma and selfstigma are embarassing factors governing our daily lives.
We face many obstacles related to our lifeplan, like no access to life insurance and other social insurances, problems finding jobs and making adequate career progress, and nothing but difficulties when seeking for partners or trying to have children.

We face prison sentences if condoms are not the center of our sexual life.

These aspects completely deny the success of science and  they deny our reality as well.
It is time to rectify the image of people living with HIV and AIDS.

We will not accept feeding fear and intolerance.

And to be honest, since the Swiss announcement was published, the discussion on prevention has gained fresh air and deeper roots.
Let‘s not stop learning.
